How does liposuction work?

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical technique that loosens and removes fat cells using vacuum suction. The procedure removes excess fat deposits while leaving skin, muscle, and nearby organs intact. 

During the treatment, Dr. Greenberg makes a tiny incision in your skin and inserts a hollow stainless steel cannula (tube) through it to reach the underlying fat layers. He typically removes fat cells from deep layers because treating superficial fat runs a higher risk of skin damage. 

Dr. Greenberg numbs the area using tumescent anesthesia. He shifts the cannula around to break up fat cells so they’re easy to suction out.
