Renuvion® Tightening of the Fibroseptal Connective Tissue And Skin

Today we will talk about Renuvion® tightening of the skin in different areas of your body. Renuvion, an innovative helium plasma technology previously known as J-Plasma, was recently approved by the FDA for tightening of the skin in the neck and chin areas. I have been using Renuvion with and without liposuction in multiple areas of the body to tighten skin in the upper arms, thighs, neck and chin, upper and lower back areas and the abdomen.

Renuvion uses radiofrequency to heat up helium into a hotter matter called plasma. This plasma is delivered through a wand that passes under the skin and heats up the collagen in the connective tissue between the skin and the muscle. This wand is inserted through small incisions 3-5 mm in size (around the size of the top of a pencil). The helium plasma heats up the collagen and causes it to contract. It also causes the collagen to regenerate in a process called neo-collagenasis. Over the following 6-9 months, the collagen continues to contract and pulls the skin tighter in the process. Renuvion is a one time treatment and is performed under local tumescent anesthesia. You leave the office within minutes after the procedure is performed.

Returning to work and life

You may return to work within a few days after the procedure is completed and may resume normal activities within 2 weeks after the procedure. You are required to wear a garment for a period of time after the procedure for best results.

To sum it all up, Renuvion can give you tighter skin with a minimally invasive procedure. Not everyone is a candidate for Renuvion, though. If you have too much loose skin, poor quality skin from being stretched too much, or you have loose abdominal fascia causing distention of your abdominal wall, then a skin excision procedure will better meet your needs. Also, Renuvion will only give you 50-70% of the tightening that a skin excision procedure will give you, but the incision for Renuvion is only a fraction of the size as an excisional procedure. Also, Renuvion takes time to achieve its final results. Sometimes it may take up to 9-10 months to achieve those results.
