Are you unhappy with the way your breasts look? Have they started to become long, droopy, or saggy? If so, you might be a good candidate for a breast lift, medically known as a mastopexy.
One way to tell if you’d benefit from a breast lift is to place a pencil underneath your breast. If it stays there, a breast lift might be right for you. A breast lift can remove any excess skin and change the shape of your breasts to give them a fuller and firmer appearance.
At North Texas Cosmetic Surgery in Frisco, Texas, our team led by board-certified cosmetic surgeon Alan Greenberg, MD, offers breast lifts to help you achieve your aesthetic goals and boost your self-confidence.
In this blog, we review more information about breast lifts, including how long you can expect yours to last.
Your breasts are naturally going to change over time. They can lose firmness, and they can lose elasticity, meaning your skin no longer snaps back into place as well. Your breasts can start to sag due to pregnancy and breastfeeding, significant weight loss, or simply the effects of gravity.
You may want to consider a breast lift to regain youthful shape and firmness if your breasts have lost shape and volume, your nipples and areolas point downward, or one of your breasts hangs down lower than the other. A breast lift can address all of these aesthetic concerns.
Before the breast lift procedure, Dr. Greenberg sits down with you and reviews your medical history and discusses your goals. He may suggest simultaneously getting a breast augmentation or breast reduction in order to achieve the look you want.
On the day of your cosmetic surgery, we mark the new positions of your nipple and areola before putting you under sedation to keep you comfortable during the procedure. Dr. Greenberg then goes in to remove extra skin and lift up the breast tissue.
A breast lift is an outpatient procedure, meaning you can go home that same day. You’ll probably be uncomfortable for a few days, but after a few weeks, you’ll check back with our team to remove your stitches and check on the healing process.
You should notice immediate results after your surgery, but it may take a few months for your breasts to settle into their new positions.
It’s important to note that a breast lift is not permanent. Natural aging is still going to take a toll on your breasts and they will start to sag again over time. However, your results should last several years.
You can always come in for a touch-up breast lift, though it won’t need to be as drastic as your initial procedure.
